Infosys and Urbana-Champaign to leverage AI/ML for Precision Medicine

fosys partners with Urbana-Champaign of the University of Illinois for precision medicine

Infosys Limited has signed a strategic partnership with the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (UIUC) to develop precision medicine technologies.

To improve preventive care, the university will use Infosys' AI and Machine Learning platform, Nia.

With the help of Nia platform, the University healthcare research and data management application will predict the disease and even reduce the costs of healthcare, the announcement notes.

Senior Vice President, Head of Healthcare at Infosys, Venky Ananth, said, "The partnership between Infosys and UIUC along with our membership in CCBGM opens up a lot of potential for Infosys’ work in the healthcare industry,”. “Not only do we have an opportunity to develop technologies and solutions that can improve and enhance patient care and management, but we also get a chance to collaborate with some of the finest minds on the new frontiers of healthcare innovation."

Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Illinois and CoPI of the CCBGM, Professor Ravishankar K Iyer, said, "The future of precision medicine, which allows tailoring diagnosis and treatment to each patient in order to optimize outcome, is dependent on the ability to jointly analyze large datasets of heterogeneous biological (genomic, metabolic, neuroimaging, etc.) and clinical measures while incorporating key clinical domain knowledge. This is a complex challenge and will require innovations in both data-driven analytics and system design to succeed."

Infosys and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Partnership

As a part of a partnership, Infosys will also become a member of the Center for Computational Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine. the healthcare research center of the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.

The CCBGM, which is a non-profit medical research center based out of Minnesota, was set up as a collaborative initiative between the Mayo Clinic Center and UIUC for the individualized medicine.

The partnership will leverage Infosys' advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities through the Infosys Nia platform. The University of Illinois Urbana Champaign will contribute their expertise in computing systems, bioinformatics and genomic applications, the announcement further notes.
