Google acquires AppSheet

Google has acquired a no-code application platform, AppSheet.

Founded in 2012, Seattle based Appsheet offers an intelligent no-code platform for business apps. The company has raised around $18.5 Million in six funding rounds, according to CrunchBase.

Executive opinion

In a blog post, Vice President, Business Application Platform, Google Cloud,  Amit Zavery, said, "With this acquisition, customers will be able to develop richer applications at scale that leverage not only Google Sheets and Forms which are already popular with customers, but other top Google technologies like Android, Maps and Google Analytics. In addition, AppSheet customers can continue to integrate with a number of cloud-hosted data sources including Salesforce, Dropbox, AWS DynamoDB and MySQL."

In another blog post, AppSheet CEO, Praveen Seshadri, said, "There is great potential to leverage and integrate more deeply with many of Google’s amazing assets like G Suite and Android to improve the functionality, scale, and performance of AppSheet. Moving forward, we expect to combine AppSheet’s core strengths with Google Cloud’s deep industry expertise in verticals like financial services, retail, and media & entertainment. "

The acquisition helps in leveraging Google technologies like Android, Maps and Google Analytics along with Google Sheets and Forms to build applications, notes the announcement.

The AppSheet team will join Google Cloud. Appsheet team will also keep on supporting their existing services, new and existing customers.

The announcement also notes that there could be further integration with other Google Cloud services and capabilities to accelerate digital transformation across different industry verticals such as financial services, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, communication, and media & entertainment.
