Samsung, Amdocs team up for telco-5G cloud

Samsung Electronics and US-based software services provider Amdocs partnered to accelerate the journey of the communications service provider (CSP) to open the cloud networks.

Samsung and Amdocs will onboard and integrate virtual network functions (NFV) so that CSP’s can take advantage of the Samsung 5G network solutions with the open network automation platform (ONAP), the announcement notes.

Executive Opinion

Executive Vice President and Head of R&D, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics, Jaeho Jeon,  said, "This partnership with Amdocs on ONAP enablement helps us accelerate an important shift towards a dynamic software-driven architecture that will empower networks to adjust themselves to meet ever-changing user demands and network conditions. As we move 5G business forward, we continue to drive the adoption of ONAP and 5G network deployment to enrich the 5G ecosystem."

Group president of Media, Network, and Technology, Amdocs, Anthony Goonetilleke,  said, "As the deployment of 5G networks accelerates, CSPs are taking the opportunity to rearchitect their network to be open, virtualized, cloud-based and AI-infused. By teaming with Samsung, Amdocs combines its expertise in enterprise-grade ONAP and software-defined systems with Samsung’s advanced 5G network solutions portfolio to better enable CSPs to launch innovative new services at speed."

Samsung and Amdocs Partnership

The collaboration will start with the Samsung virtualized central unit function and will later cover some other areas, which include the components of the 5G core.

Automation and orchestration platform managing Network function virtualization enables CSPs to create new offerings to monetize their network.

The deal will help the CSPs realize a full end to end 5G cloud network that supports their current and future business requirements, the announcement says.

In a recent development, Amdocs is named as a Leader in Gartner's 2019 Magic Quadrant for IT Services for Communications Service Providers, Worldwide.
