Emerson Acquires Zedi’s Software Businesses for Cloud and Digital Transformation of Oil and Gas industry

Emerson recently announced the completion of Zedi’s Software and Automation Businesses acquisition. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Zedi provides a cloud supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) platform. The secure, scalable cloud-based SCADA platform is a combination of proprietary technology and technologies from other companies. According to Zedi's website, the Zedi's cloud-based open system supports any digital monitoring hardware for real-time operational data for producers around the world.

Executive president of Emerson’s Automation Solutions business, Lal Karsanbhai, said, "As world energy demand continues to grow, helping our vital oil and gas market customers maximize their resources is a top priority. Through our vast portfolio of automation technologies, we are helping the industry navigate ever-changing market dynamics and operational challenges. The addition of Zedi strengthens our ability to help customers leverage the latest advances from the field to the refinery."

Group president of Emerson’s systems and solutions business, Jim Nyquist, said, "Oil and gas producers today are challenged to meet production targets while controlling costs, and they are looking for opportunities to transform operations and make their teams more effective through digital solutions like analytics and mobility. This important investment bolsters our portfolio and ability to help Emerson’s customers achieve Top Quartile performance through emerging Industrial Internet of Things technologies."

The Zedi's Acquisition

The acquisition benefits Emerson in many areas. With the help of Emerson, it is possible for oil and gas producers to increase production. At the same time, Emerson can help producers to lower operating costs through cloud-based monitoring, control, and optimization. The announcement noted that Zedi’s technology is already monitoring more than 2 million sensors and thousands of devices and applications.

Automating the production process through edge and cloud analytics and machine learning is a common vision of both Emerson as well as Zedi, says the announcement.
