AWS provides $10 Million scholarship to help Students Learn skills

AWS

AWS has recently revealed an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning scholarship worth $10 million to aid underserved students across the globe for careers in the new field.

The program will be going to utilize the AWS DeepRacer Student League to teach students the foundations in the concepts of machine learning in the areas of autonomous car racing, which will be used as an example for teaching machine learning fundamentals.

Executive Opinion

Swami Sivasubramanian, Vice President of Amazon Machine Learning at AWS, said, "The two initiatives we are announcing today are designed to open up educational opportunities in machine learning to make it more widely accessible to anyone who is interested in the technology. Machine learning will be one of the most transformational technologies of this generation. If we are going to unlock the full potential of this technology to tackle some of the world’s most challenging problems, we need the best minds entering the field from all backgrounds and walks of life. We want to inspire and excite a diverse future workforce through this new scholarship program and break down the cost barriers that prevent many from getting started with machine learning."

The AWS Scholarship

DeepRacer is a partnership between Intel and AWS, which helps college and high school enrolled students, learn the Machine Learning modules.

AWS will also offer access to a no-cost version of the SageMaker Studio Lab. SagerMaker is the company platform to help companies and developers train, build and deploy machine learning models.

The program will specifically offer for the 2000 qualifying students from underrepresented and underserved communities a scholarship for the AI Programming with the Python Udacity Nanodegree program, which is expected to offer them the programming techniques and tools in machine learning.

Around 500 students will then again be filtered out and will be provided with an extra second scholarship, along with mentorship from Intel and AWS, to further prepare for a career in AI and ML, notes the announcement.
