NVIDIA to buy Palo Alto based Autonomous Vehicle Mapping startup DeepMap

NVIDIA DeepMap

NVIDIA recently announced that it intends to acquire autonomous mapping and localization solutions startup DeepMap.

Founded in 2016, Palo Alto headquartered DeepMap offers high-definition mapping solutions for autonomous vehicles. It meets centimeter-level precision for accurate localization requirements of autonomous vehicles. The autonomous vehicle company already secured $92 Million in four funding rounds

Vice President and General Manager of Automotive at NVIDIA, Ali Kani, said, "The acquisition is an endorsement of DeepMap’s unique vision, technology and people. DeepMap is expected to extend our mapping products, help us scale worldwide map operations and expand our full self-driving expertise.""

Co-founder and CEO of DeepMap, James Wu, said, "NVIDIA is an amazing, world-changing company that shares our vision to accelerate safe autonomy. Joining forces with NVIDIA will allow our technology to scale more quickly and benefit more people sooner. We look forward to continuing our journey as part of the NVIDIA team.

NVIDIA's DeepMap acquisition

Post-acquisition NVIDIA plans to integrate DeepMap's offerings into the NVIDIA DRIVE platform. DeepMap's capabilities will further enhance the mapping and localization capabilities of the NVIDIA DRIVE platform.

NVIDIA DRIVE platform is leveraged by Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Audi, Volvo, and others with varying degrees of features and complexity. 

The acquisition is expected to close by the third quarter of 2021, notes the announcement
