Hitachi Vantara acquires Containership Kubernetes Platform


Hitachi Vantara announced the acquisition of Kubernetes start-up Containership.

Containership enables customers to easily deploy and manage Kubernetes clusters and containerized applications in the public cloud, private cloud, and on-premise environments.

Founded in 2014, Containership offers Kubernetes based enterprise Containers-as-a-Service platform. The company raised a total of $2.6M in funding over 2 rounds, according to Crunchbase.

Executive Opinion

Chief Operating Officer, Digital Infrastructure Business Unit, Hitachi Vantara, Bobby Soni, said, "Hitachi Vantara already delivers infrastructure solutions that leverage the Kubernetes technology. However, container orchestration is a rapidly evolving market and we continue to invest in solutions that help IT and DevOps teams maximize their infrastructure advantage."

He further added, "We are pleased to have acquired this promising Kubernetes IP and look forward to working closely with the Kubernetes community as we integrate the technology across our portfolio."

Containership Platform

The Containership Kubernetes Engine is Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) certified Kubernetes distribution. The technology helps in provisioning and maintenance of Kubernetes clusters with major cloud providers.

The platform handles Kubernetes challenges while dealing with persistent storage support, centralized authentication, access control, audit logging, continuous deployment, workload portability, cost analysis, autoscaling, upgrades, notes the announcement.
