Google becomes a member of the Hedera Governing Council

Google recently announced its membership in the Hedera Governing Council.

The Hedera Governing Council supervises strategic planning for the Hedera blockchain network. The council ensures the stability and reliability of network protocols and their operations.

Hedera HashGraph is a decentralized public blockchain platform. The Hedera network's governing council consists of leading global enterprises, across multiple industries including from the fields of telecommunications, technology, financial services, law, and retail sectors.

The Hedera distributed ledger platform offers a secure and fast infrastructure to run decentralized applications.

Executive Opinion

SVP of Products for Hedera, Atul Mahamuni, said, "We initially turned to Google Cloud for its ease of use, networking advantages and overall platform performance. The Google Cloud Platform was the perfect foundation to help us achieve our goals to bring enterprise-ready DLT adoption at scale."

Mahamuni further added, "As we continue to evolve our infrastructure, we’re excited to expand our work with Google Cloud to now make DLT even more readily available for our community members, no matter their size or industry. This is about developing solutions that drive real business value."

Hedera and Google Cloud Platform

Hedera has been leveraging Google Cloud Platform (GCP), premium network tier, right from the inception of its Distributed ledger technology (DLT). In the blog post, Allen Day, Developer Advocate at Google Cloud notes that the choice of GCP was due to the stability and reliability of its network.

As a part of the Hedera Governing Council, Google plans to operate a Hedera network node. It will also ensure the availability of the ledger data for analytics alongside GCP's other public DLT datasets.

The development helps GCP position as the preferred choice of the cloud provider for Distributed ledger technology (DLT) networks and decentralized applications, notes the announcement.

Previously,  IBM and Tata Communications has joined the governing council of the Hedera.  The current ten members include Deutsche Telekom, Boeing, FIS, DLA Piper, Magazine Luiza, Nomura, Swirlds, Magalu, Swisscom Blockchain. Google joins the Hedera governing council as their 11th member.
