SAP and Verizon tie-up for IoT Analytics Solutions

SAP and Verizon tie-up for IoT Analytics Solutions

At Mobile World Congress Americas, LA, SAP, and Verizon announced their collaboration to leverage 5G, software-defined networking (SDN) and its Intelligent Edge Network capabilities.

Enterprises are trying to uncover the benefits of IoT and related technologies to unlock new business models. In the IoT ecosystem, it is essential to process device data generated at the device location itself to save time and increase performance in making business decisions. This increases the overall productivity of the enterprise.

SAP's collaboration with Verizon is aiming for the same goals of identifying monetization strategies and devising new business models by leveraging edge computing.

Executive Opinion

Chief Customer Innovation Officer, SAP North Americas, Eric Stine, said, "We are unleashing the next generation of cloud capabilities through global data centers, across the edge of the network. With data volumes growing exponentially and the capabilities of new wireless technologies like 5G to further expand the reach of IoT and enterprise computing, SAP and Verizon are uniquely positioned to drive a new class of data analytics, management and services at scale to help the world’s great companies create amazing customer experiences, and unlock new business models and monetization strategies."

President, Global Enterprise, Verizon Business Group, George Fischer, said, "Our ability to integrate our ThingSpace platform into the SAP Cloud portfolio provides a secure and agile way to deliver instantaneous, end-to-end operational analytics at the edge while lowering the cost of IoT management. This combined solution is not just about massive IoT. We are also enabling computer vision, augmented reality, blockchain and machine learning using Verizon’s network. These are a truly comprehensive set of capabilities to help our customers better manage critical functions including asset lifecycles, supply chains, customer experiences, human capital and plant operations."

SAP SE and Verizon IoT Solution

Verizon’s ThingSpace-enabled Critical Asset Sensor (CAS) and SAP Edge Services are generating real-time insights. Location, temperature, humidity, and vibration are analyzed at the edge location.

Both enterprises planned to create enterprise solutions leveraging Verizon’s network and SAP Leonardo Internet of Things (IoT) solution, SAP Edge Services and analytics, computing and data management capabilities, notes the announcement.

A demonstration of the joint solution was made at Mobile World Congress Americas, LA on October 22-24.
