Comcast Acquires Advanced AI Cybersecurity Protection Provider, BluVector

Telecom giant Comcast recently acquired advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning based cybersecurity provider, BluVector. The financial terms of the acquisition are not disclosed.

Founded in 2017, Arlington, Virginia based BluVector uses its proprietary machine-learning engine to detect, analyze, and contain a wide range of sophisticated cyber-threats including “fileless malware,” zero-day malware and ransomware. Recently, BluVector was issued with a new patent for “System and method for in-situ classifier retraining for malware identification and model heterogeneity” (U.S. Patent 10,121,108).

The announcement noted that both companies will work towards growing BluVector’s existing business and will also develop new cybersecurity technologies.

Executive Opinion

General Manager, Growth at Comcast, Don Mathis, said. "BluVector is a global leader in leveraging AI and machine learning to defend against advanced cyber threats. We’re thrilled that BluVector is part of Comcast and are excited to support its continued growth, even as we explore new opportunities to leverage BluVector technology and expertise."


BluVector also said it has named Eric Malawer, a veteran leader with more than two decades of experience in data analytics, artificial intelligence, national intelligence, and digital security, as CEO of BluVector.

Comcast additionally noted that Chief Information Security Officer Noopur Davis will head up identifying opportunities to use the companies’ combined technology and expertise to develop new products and initiatives.

Juniper's AI acquisition

In another such development, Juniper Networks announced its plan to acquire Mist Systems for USD $405 million. The acquisition brings cloud-managed wireless networks powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to IT and solidifies Juniper's vision of Software-Defined Enterprise.

BluVector recently won a multimillion-dollar contract with U.S. government agency.
