BitTorrent's Live Streaming Service to use Blockchain Technology

BitTorrent announced today beta program of its Live streaming service, a decentralized social media platform based on P2P technology.

BitTorrent Live will allow mobile users to create continuous live content, connect with people with common interests and also earn money by expressing your creativity

Recently, at niTROn blockchain conference in San Francisco, BitTorrent announced that it will be launching its BTT crypto token enabled application BitTorrent Speed in the second quarter of 2019. On 5th January 2019, BitTorrent unveiled TRC-10 compatible BitTorrent (BTT) Crypto Token for a Decentralized Internet.

In 2018, TRON acquired BitTorrent to enhance and add virtual currency functionalities to the platform. The popularity torrent protocols can be gauged from its large size of decentralized P2P torrent networks which drives 22% of upstream and 3% of downstream traffic globally.

The announcement noted that users will able to search for their interests and directly engage with broadcasters to provide their immediate feedback. The BitTorrent Live streaming service will eventually use blockchain technology for privacy and ownership of user-generated content.

The newly introduced service will also allow cryptocurrency as its new payment option in the coming months. The announcement did not mention the kind of cryptocurrencies the live streaming service will support but from the last couple of months of development, we can predict the recently launched BTT token or TRX token as a possible candidate for the cryptocurrency payments and earnings.

The live streaming service will be made available for beta testing download in Q2 2019 and rolled out in phases across the globe.
