Platform9 Launches Managed Kubernetes Service on VMware vSphere
Platform9 announced industry's first fully managed Kubernetes service on VMware vSphere as Platform9 Managed Kubernetes (PMK).
Platform9 Managed Kubernetes (PMK) is a fully managed service and claims to be enterprise & production grade Kubernetes on VMware vSphere platform. It can be up and running in a less than an hour, according to the announcement.
Enterprise-grade capabilities include zero-touch upgrades, multi-cluster operations, high availability, monitoring, and more, all handled automatically and backed by a 24x7x365 SLA.
Executive Opinion
Co-founder and CEO of Platform9, Sirish Raghuram, said, "Kubernetes is the #1 enabler for cloud-native applications and is critical to the competitive advantage for software-driven organizations today. VMware was never designed to run containerized workloads, and integrated offerings in the market today are extremely clunky, hard to implement and even harder to manage. We're proud to take the pain out of Kubernetes on VMware, delivering a pure open source-based, Kubernetes-as-a-Service solution that is fully managed, just works out of the box, and with an SLA guarantee in your own environment."Customer Opinion
Head of Infrastructure at Snapfish, Brian Chan, said, "Platform9 has greatly simplified our lives and accelerated our development time knowing that we don't need to worry about ensuring uptime and operating our current infrastructure. The addition of VMware to provision Kubernetes clusters with a single click will allow us to leverage our existing VMware investments while maintaining guaranteed SLAs."Using existing vSphere Environment
With Platform9 Managed Kubernetes, enterprises can easily support Kubernetes at scale in parallel with their legacy applications, traditional VMs, and serverless functions. This means that enterprise can leverage their existing investments in VMware vSphere infrastructure and at the same time use Kubernetes in their environment with lesser complexity and avoid further vendor lock-in.The announcement further claimed that Platform9's managed kubernetes use upstream open source Kubernetes source code without any special forks thus bringing up-to-date innovations from the open source community to enterprises.
Platform9 already provides managed OpenStack service and backs fission, an open source Functions-as-a-Service for Kubernetes.
