AWS Cloud to be a preferred Cloud Vendor for 3M


3M recently announced that the firm is now moving its enterprise IT infrastructure to AWS (Amazon Web Services) cloud infrastructure as a part of a digital transformation project.

The firm revealed that it would migrate systems for manufacturing, accounting, eCommerce, and more AWS cloud platform. The decision was made in a bid to improve its global operations.

3M, formally known by the name as Minnesota Mining Manufacturing Company, is a 100 years old US corporation that offers a diverse range of services in markets such as automotive, healthcare, manufacturing, and a wide number of other areas.

Executive Opinion

John Turner, Vice President, IT Systems and Chief Information Officer at 3M, said, "AWS is integral to our enterprise IT transformation as we look for better ways to serve our customers, streamline the way we work, and compete globally. AWS, with its proven experience and highly performant global infrastructure, will deliver the agility, speed, and scalability 3M needs to launch new business processes and service models. We look forward to expanding our use of AWS’s portfolio of services, including analytics and machine learning, to gain greater insights and become an even more agile company in the cloud."

Mike Clayville, Vice President, Worldwide Commercial Sales at AWS, said, "3M is leveraging AWS to drive change within its IT organization, and it will transform those improvements into the delivery of new applications and services to meet 3M business needs. For more than 100 years, 3M has had a relentless focus on innovation, making scientific discoveries that advance, enhance, and improve every company, home, and life. AWS’s breadth and depth of services will help 3M continue to launch new business processes, bring increased customer focus, and keep its position as one of the world’s most successful diversified companies."

3M leverages AWS cloud

Moving forward, 3M's intention is to tap into the Amazon Web Services portfolio, such as analytics, machine learning, security, storage, and database, to streamline its business process and meet some of the changing customer demands.

3M is yet another large organization to go all-in on the AWS over the last couple of years, following the likes of BP and NFL.

The cloud giant, AWS, is also locked in a legal battle with the Pentagon over its decision to award its JEDI contract to Microsoft – which is seen as an Amazon closet rival in the cloud space.

It's 96000 global employees uses the 51 different technology platform, said the announcement.
