Lockheed Martin Delivers 500ᵗʰ Electro-Optical Targeting System for F-35


Lockheed Martin recently announced that successful delivery of 500th Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) for F-35.

The announcement noted that all units that were made have been delivered within the promised time period or ahead of the planned schedule. These systems will support aircraft production and sustainment requirements.

Lockheed Martin is a Bethesda, Maryland based company which work for global security and aerospace. The company’s employment rate is pretty high which approximately reaches up to a high number like 105,000 employees. The company is principally engaged in several fields, two of them being research and design.

Vice President of Sensors & Global Sustainment at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC), Michael Williamson said, "We are proud to bring superior capabilities to the F-35. We know how important this capability is to the warfighter and we continue to invest in our Advanced EOTS upgrade, which will bring extended capabilities to the cockpit."

About F-35 Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS)

Lockheed Martin, claims that F-35 EOTS is the first sensor in the world to combine forward-looking infrared and infrared search and track functionality. This sensor combination will provide the pilots of F-35 with precise air-to-air and air-to-ground targeting capability. EOTS also comes with more new and latest features that allow aircrews to identify areas of interest, perform reconnaissance and precisely deliver laser and GPS-guided weapons.

About DAS window

The announcement also noted that delivery of the Distributed Aperture System (DAS) Window for warfighter plane called F-35 Lightning II. The DAS window basically consists of six polycrystalline silicon, low-observable, infrared transparent windows for Electro-Optical (EO) DAS sensors on the F-35. The function of each shipset of windows is to enable the EODAS sensor is to provide the pilot with threat detection and 360-degree situational awareness.
