Wipro Seeks to Enhance Digital Transformation Capabilities, Establishes Chair for Artificial Intelligence (AI)


Wipro, IT and Services company, plans to setup Chair for Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.

Wipro is India's third largest software services provider and also global information technology, consulting & business process services company.

Swinburne has five key research institutes that foster innovations in big data and data analytics, software innovation, cybersecurity, automation, internet-of-things, and advanced visualization.

Professor Ryszard Kowalczyk has been appointed as the Professorial Chair of Artificial Intelligence. He holds a Master of Engineering from the University of Zielona Gora and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Silesian University of Technology. Ryszard is the Director of Swinburne’s Key Lab for Intelligent Software Systems, and the head of Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Agent Technology research group at Swinburne.

The announcement also said about the plans to set up joint innovation center focussed on research in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) with specific applications for digital health and smart cities. Swinburne has five key research institutes out of which two are focused on Health Innovation and Smart Cities.

The newly designated Wipro's Chair of Artificial Intelligence and Director of Swinburne Key Lab for Intelligent Software Systems at the Swinburne University of Technology, Professor Ryszard Kowalczyk, said, “With this powerful industry-academia partnership, we are on course to transform AI and ML as we know it. AI and ML are today one the most coveted skills and this innovation center makes it possible to fast track AI and ML courses for industry professionals and provide the industry with access to a large pool of Ph.D. and undergraduate students at the University.”

The outcome of the AI/ML Partnership

The partnership seeks to extend Artificial Intelligence (AI) research to Australian and the ASEAN region enterprises. As an outcome of this partnership, Wipro plans to enhance their digital transformation capabilities and co-develope unique solutions intellectual properties by leveraging advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) research, development, consulting and solution delivery.
