WISeKey Releases Android based WISePhone, the First Ever Secure Blockchain Phone with Cryptocurrency Payment Capabilities

WISeKey International Holding Ltd announced WISePhone, a secure Blockchain mobile phone based on Android. All components of WISePhone are secured by WISeKey technology.

It is worth noting that WISeKey has Telecommunication Services Provider status under OFCOM, the Swiss Federal Office of Communications. It allows WISeKey to deploy mobile phone voice encryption solutions.

The announcement claims that the WISePhone is a cost-effective and flexible platform. It  empowers efficiency and mobility within the organization whilst protecting the intellectual property and the confidentiality of the communications by transforming public networks and mobile devices into highly secure communication channels.

WISePhone integrates WISeKey's innovative hardware and software technologies. It bringsfirst and only smartphone powered by WISeCoin cryptocurrency Blockchain technology platform. WISePhone will also include a native Wallet. However the wallet service will be only activated once WISeCoin AG receives clearance from the Swiss financial market regulator, FINMA, to issue a Security Token Offering (STO).


WISeCoin or World Internet Secure Coin is a Cryptocurrency platform helps enable countries to launch their own Cryptocurrencies Combining National Identities with Crypto Wallets.

WISeKey is also working with governments and corporations to address some of the critical requirements using Blockchain.

Some of the WISeKey engagements include:

• A vehicle lifecycle management system on Blockchain for the government of  Andhra Pradesh in India with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to produce improved governance

WISeKey’s cryptographic RoT empowers IoT manufacturers and chipmakers to add digital certificates to their chips at the hardware-level to encrypt communication and authenticate the devices on Blockchain.

WISePhone's native Wallet is equipped with a HSM (Hardware Security Module) device. The wallet integrates the WISeKey SuisseID Digital Identity. It helps in enabling cloud-based qualified signing capabilities certified by the Swiss Government and in compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The WISePhone Wallet can also be used to conduct secure contactless payments. It will use WISeKey's Blockchain-as-a-Service ("BaaS") technology. The annoucnement claims that the wallet is compatible with most of the existing Blockchain technologies.

WISeTalk, offering voice and text encrypted communication, is supported on WISePhone. There are other suite of applications that offer similar services due to sophisticated security mechanisms and advanced end-to-end encryption technologies.

WISeID helps secure users' data and digital assets protected inside an encrypted enclave (replicated in a secure swiss cloud). Another technology, WISeAccess provides additional secure authentication factors to access the WISePhone suite of applications.

According to the announcement, the platform used by WISePhone.ch voice encryption products and services is hosted in Switzerland inside WISeKey's zero-risk bunker deep in the Swiss Alps. It is providing Secure Cloud Storage solutions allowing users to securely exchange sensitive data and Identity Management with WISeID.
